Resort-wear is the largest growing product selection in the swimwear industry and we thought it was important to tell you why?

What is Resort-wear? Clothing worn while traveling and on vacation, especially in warm weather climates. It began as a fashion trend for elites and socialites and evolved into accessible wear for everyone. High end boutiques, department stores, and designers all marketed resort wear as easy to pack, lightweight, and comfortable clothes to wear while vacationing in the tropics.

When selecting the perfect swimsuit that is truly only half the battle. Completing the look with your favorite cover-up is the ultimate goal. It Girl Alert: Kendall Jenner

She used to be known simply as one of the younger sisters of Kim Kardashian. As of late, however, she has stepped out of the Kim shaped shadow and into the spotlight on her own. Kendall Jenner or just Kendall as she is going by now is garnering major attention in the fashion world. Whether you love her or hate her she is proving to be a force to be reckoned with. While rumors circulate that Kendall might be having a difficult time fitting in with her model peers it certainly seems that she has won over the hearts of some of the biggest names in fashion.

Not only has she been the face of brands such as Givenchy and Agua Bendita but more recently she has been spotted stomping down the runway in nearly every major show during New York, Paris and Milan fashion weeks. She has walked for Diane Von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Chanel, and Fendi just to name a few. 

She is certainly proving that she is more than just part of the reality tv family and is carving out a place for herself in the fashion world. From the looks of it she doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Straight From the Runway: Monokini Madness

One of our favorite runway trends at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2014 in Miami were monokinis. The monokini was originally designed as a topless one piece suit with a wide array of cutouts. Some styles have side or front cutouts or a combination of both. Others have sheer fabric connecting the top piece to the bottom, and some even wrap the fabric around in a unique design to create gaps and openings. Another great feature we loved seeing on the runway was all of the vivid colors, fresh prints, and amazing hardware.

There is a monokini for practically all body shapes. Most are best suited for hourglass figures as they provide additional support at the bust and show off a slim waist with cutouts along the side. Apples and fuller figured shapes may want to look for styles with more coverage around the waist and look more for plunging neckline cutouts. Pears want to look for suits with more detailing along the top half to draw the eye up and create a more proportionate appearance. Lastly, rectangles want to look for styles that create a well defined waist line. Look for suits with side cutouts or ones that have wrap around detailing around the waist. With so many options it's no surprise that the monokini has quickly become the perfect summer must have!

A Blast From the Past: Retro Style Swimwear

 Retro bathing suits are back in a big way. No matter if it's the 40's, 50's or 60's styles that appeal to you, AWB has all the vintage inspired suits you are looking for. What makes these modern suits so great is the way they have seamlessly merged the old in with the new.

 

One-piece suits once were the standard in fashionable swimwear. The addition of thin straps or a halter strap as seen above were popular of the times. These suits are given a modern twist with their high cuts and ruched detailing.

   

Looking for something a little more wild, look for one-pieces with great prints. It's all about the animal, floral and geometric patterns. Sweetheart, bandeau, and plunging necklines all add retro inspired touches.

What gives these suits that old time feel is all in the details. Look for suits with ruffles, ties, and structure. Boning and support were all the rage back then so look to suits that can create that illusion. Try out this high waisted geometric print bandeau bikini above. This definitely isn't your grandmother's suit!

Almost Happy Hour Drink of the Day... Lava Flow

This week for our Almost Happy Hour drink, we were inspired by the Agua Bendita Bendito Totem bikini. It's bright red with a multi colored trim which reminded us of the sweet and refreshing colors of the Lava Flow. This bikini real turns up the heat and this is the perfect drink to help you stay cool!

Lava Flow Ingredients:
1 ounces light rum
2 ounces pineapple juice
6 ounces pina colada mix ( coconut cream and pineapple juice)
1 ounce strawberry puree
1 small chunk pineapple, for garnish

Blend rum, pineapple juice, and pina colada mix with 1 cup of ice. Next, take a glass and coat the inside with strawberry puree. Pour in colada blend. Finally, use a spoon to drag the strawberry puree up through the colada drink, creating a pink stripe. Garnish with a pineapple chunk, and serve.

The Many Bikinis of Rihanna

Rihanna was born and raised in Barbados, but has been entertaining the world with her chart topping music for years.  She is known almost as much for her songs as she is for constantly reinventing herself and her style. Traveling the world has never stopped Rihanna from enjoying her time in the sun. Whether she is in Hawaii, France, Mexico or even her home country of Barbados, RiRi is a sun worshiping goddess who has no shortage of awe inspiring suits in her closet. One of my favorite looks that she dons is the one piece monokini! She is one of those rare people who could wear a potato sack and still look gorgeous. So imagine the damage she can do in one of these to die for one piece suits.

The common misconception is that if someone is wearing a one piece that they are probably trying to hide some of their imperfections. As the world can attest, this couldn't be further from the truth when it comes to Rihanna. While the one piece can lend itself to a more modest style, with today's wide variety of styles there is a one piece monokini for all personalities. In every magazine on the shelf the pages are littered with celebrities and their amazing bikinis. Leave it to Rihanna to go against the grain and remind the world that being your own person and trying something different truly helps one "shine bright like a diamond".
