Compliment Any Look with Electric Picks Jewelry

When searching for new brands and new products for AWB it's not always as easy as it looks. So on our last buying trip during Miami Swimweek we discovered a brand that could compliment any beach to boardwalk look!

Electric Picks has a unique aesthetic, combining the worlds of music + fashion.  The New York City based brand aims to translate the excitement and glamour of music into jewelry form utilizing guitar picks and taking inspiration from music festivals around the world.

The brand is co-owned by best friends Mj Barton & Chantel Gia.  One night after a concert in Miami, Mj had a dream to punch holes in the guitar pick souvenir she'd gotten that night.  Soon friends & family wanted her to make their guitar picks into bracelets as well, and Electric Picks was born.

The guitar picks are all either custom or vintage. Mj & Chantel love to scour vintage stores for inspiration. Using materials from their travels all around the world (Istanbul, Athens, Barcelona, Morocco, Thailand, Paris, India etc) they mix gemstones, fine metals, and authentic guitar picks to create looks that aspire to be as timeless as music is.

Electric Picks has been spotted in the pages of Cosmo, People Stylewatch, Self, and Lucky and on the wrists of Sophia Vergara, Vanessa Hudgens, and Britney Spears.

Past, Present & Future

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim starting today and the Swim Show this weekend I am currently like a kid waiting to go to the candy store. I am impatiently anticipating all the excitement that awaits me in Miami, Florida and it can't come soon enough. As I sit here wondering what I will see, the colors, styles, models, music; I can't help but think of all that has come before it.  How is what we see today  influenced by designs of the past. So in order to keep myself, or at least my mind, occupied until the start of the first show I have been taking a look back to see how swimwear has changed and evolved into what we see today. And to prepare myself to see what the future (specifically today, but it still counts) has in store!

The 1920's-1940's
This is the start of bathing suits as we would recognize them today. The first modern suits were essentially the same for men and women. The suits covered the thighs and provided maximum coverage with little shape. As time passed the suits became more figuring hugging and the shorts of the pasts morphed into skirts. Finally in the 1940's the first bikini was introduced and drastically changed the way the world looked at swimwear.

The 1950's to 1970's
The biggest changes in these decades were the evolution from the high waisted bikini to progressively skimpier designs. Another major change of this time was the invention of new materials which allowed for more stretch and more contouring along the figure.

1980's-Present
Although the 80's may seem like a distant memory to some of us it is definitely a reflection of the modern times of swimwear. Although trends have come and gone over the past 3 decades the current suit has remainded mostly unchanged. The true representation of variances between the years stems mostly from coverage, whether it's full, moderate, Brazilian or thong. Regardless of the small updates the current suit styles seem to be holding strong with no signs of going away.

What does the future have in store? I guess we will just have to wait and see!

Bikini Outfit of the Day: Little Black Bikini

It has been a well known secret of women that black makes us look thinner, and for all intents and purposes this is true. The concept that all black, or all dark colors, makes us appear thinner is for a multitude of reasons. It creates a monochromatic streamline for the eye which isn't broken up by other colors, making you appear longer and thinner. Dark colors also help to hide any bunching or curves in the fabric which would be more visible in lighter colors. When wearing black these imperfections are more difficult to see and therefore creates a more slimming look. The same is true when it comes to a Little Black Bikini (LBB). It helps to hide some of our flaws and always creates a sophisticated, put together look. Below we have selected our favorite LBB for each body shape. By selecting a style that flatters your body type and adds in the slimming effect of dark solid colors, these looks are sure to become your go to LBB.

Almost Happy Hour Drink of the Day... Lava Flow

This week for our Almost Happy Hour drink, we were inspired by the Agua Bendita Bendito Totem bikini. It's bright red with a multi colored trim which reminded us of the sweet and refreshing colors of the Lava Flow. This bikini real turns up the heat and this is the perfect drink to help you stay cool!

Lava Flow Ingredients:
1 ounces light rum
2 ounces pineapple juice
6 ounces pina colada mix ( coconut cream and pineapple juice)
1 ounce strawberry puree
1 small chunk pineapple, for garnish

Blend rum, pineapple juice, and pina colada mix with 1 cup of ice. Next, take a glass and coat the inside with strawberry puree. Pour in colada blend. Finally, use a spoon to drag the strawberry puree up through the colada drink, creating a pink stripe. Garnish with a pineapple chunk, and serve.

This amazing Miami, Florida based company offers one of a kind suits that we just can't get enough of.  Lourdes "Luli" Hanimian and Augusto Hanimian, her brother-in-law, are the creative geniuses behind the successful brand. The company boasts the slogan "made in paradise" which couldn't be more true. The suits, which are made in Columbia, come from paradise to help you enjoy your own personal piece of paradise. What makes this line so unique is its Latin influenced designs and incredibly flattering styles that know how to enhance a woman's figure.  From bright bold colors to custom prints, Luli Fama knows what the ladies love! One of the things that really separates them from their competitors is, attention to detail. There is no shortage of cutouts, fringe, hardware, studs, and of course ruching. They are one of the original brands that helped to put the ruched bikini bottom, that we are all so fond of, on the map.

Hot Spots for Last Minute Getaways

Show off your fabulous swimwear and plan a last minute summer getaway. It’s true, fall is right around the corner, but it’s not here yet.  Take advantage of these last fleeting summer days by booking a fabulous trip.  Here are some of All Wet Beachwear's favorite "Hot Spots":

Riviera Maya, Mexico:

Take advantage of this beautiful Mexican hot spot during its “off-season”.  That’s right, Riviera Maya is beautiful during the summer months but prices are low and crowds small. And, if you are hoping to bring the entire family check out the all-inclusive resorts, Iberostar Tucan and Quetzel where kids 12 and under stay and eat free.

Last minute Caribbean Cruises:

During the hot summer months one can find plenty of available cabins on Caribbean cruises.  This means cheaper prices and plenty of seats available poolside. What better place to show off your gorgeous bikini and cover up then a fabulous Caribbean cruise.

Vegas Baby!

The Venetian Vegas is offering a great last minute August vacation price. Book your escape to Las Vegas in August and get packages from $139 a night.  Soak up the sun on the Pool Deck or at the luxurious Azure Pool where you can sip mimosa's and perfect your tan.

Miami:

One of our favorite hot spots can be found in Miami, the Newport Beachside Resort.  Whether you prefer the warm ocean waters or relaxing beachfront pool deck the Newport Beachside Resort has it all. With daily activities, indulging spa, dancing and the most delicious meals you will ever have this is one of the best spots to get away!

If you have any favorite "Hot Spots" let us know and we will be sure to share them with our readers.
