They are simple and easy to pack and are a great multifunctional staple. These pants are great as a cover up while spending the day on the beach or walking around and checking out the sites. They play double duty when dressed up with a great pair of shoes, a blouse, and some fun accessories for a night on the town. With so many ways to wear these pants you will save plenty of room in your suitcase this summer for extra bikinis!

Past, Present & Future

With Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim starting today and the Swim Show this weekend I am currently like a kid waiting to go to the candy store. I am impatiently anticipating all the excitement that awaits me in Miami, Florida and it can't come soon enough. As I sit here wondering what I will see, the colors, styles, models, music; I can't help but think of all that has come before it.  How is what we see today  influenced by designs of the past. So in order to keep myself, or at least my mind, occupied until the start of the first show I have been taking a look back to see how swimwear has changed and evolved into what we see today. And to prepare myself to see what the future (specifically today, but it still counts) has in store!

The 1920's-1940's
This is the start of bathing suits as we would recognize them today. The first modern suits were essentially the same for men and women. The suits covered the thighs and provided maximum coverage with little shape. As time passed the suits became more figuring hugging and the shorts of the pasts morphed into skirts. Finally in the 1940's the first bikini was introduced and drastically changed the way the world looked at swimwear.

The 1950's to 1970's
The biggest changes in these decades were the evolution from the high waisted bikini to progressively skimpier designs. Another major change of this time was the invention of new materials which allowed for more stretch and more contouring along the figure.

1980's-Present
Although the 80's may seem like a distant memory to some of us it is definitely a reflection of the modern times of swimwear. Although trends have come and gone over the past 3 decades the current suit has remainded mostly unchanged. The true representation of variances between the years stems mostly from coverage, whether it's full, moderate, Brazilian or thong. Regardless of the small updates the current suit styles seem to be holding strong with no signs of going away.

What does the future have in store? I guess we will just have to wait and see!

Supermodels & String Bikinis!

With summer in full swing there is nothing better than spending these hot summer months relaxing on the beach. Whether you are traveling to exotic locations or sticking closer to home swimwear is an essential part of summer time fun. One of our personal favorites and one of the most popular styles of bikinis is the string bikini. This fun and classic style is the standby for so many women because it is a universally flattering cut. Supermodels Adriana Lima, Cara Delevingne, Gisele Bundchen, and Miranda Kerr arguably have some of the most coveted bodies on the planet.  And despite being able to wear anything, including a brown bag, and still look good these lovely ladies stick with the string bikini for their time in the sun.

This style works for all body shapes which makes it a go to for so many women. If you are an hourglass look for a string bikini that offers enough coverage and provides extra support for a larger chest. Stick to matching colors or prints to keep your hourglass shape proportionate. Pears should look to create even proportions. Have fun with color and prints on the top but look to solid colors for the bottom. By doing this you are drawing the eye up to your chest and minimizing your bottom. Apples, similar to hourglass, want to look for tops that provide enough coverage and support in solid and dark colors for their larger chest. Since apples tend to have smaller lower halves look for bottoms that draw attention to this area. Reach for bright colors and fun patterns. Are you more of a rectangle? Try to build curves with suits that have ruffles, or fringe detailing. These eye catching extras help to create a more hourglass shape by drawing attention to the chest and bottom.

With so many great options it is no surprise that the string bikini stands out above the rest!
